Dear Christian Singles Network

  Reposted from My MySpace.

Dear Christian Singles Network,

Although I (like most everyone else on myspace) am bombarded with friend requests from bands I either don't care about or even have the time/patience to listen to. Today I got the surprise of you sending me a friend request.

Now I'm not saying you are evil or that you shouldn't be allowed to do this, But you wouldn't see me starting an Agnostic/Atheist Singles Network on the web or MySpace or wherever.

Hey let's close off dating to only people in our religion. Sounds like a great way to stay open to different ideas and people of different backgrounds/cultures!

Now I realize that Christianity would be a source of two people relating to one another, I just don't think it should be a primary requirement for dating. Obviously I wouldn't fit with some hardcore fundamentalist Christian. But I have no problem with spiritual values or belief in god or any of that stuff.

I'm not here to bring Christianity down or anything like that, I have friends from different walks of life, Christian, Jewish, Atheist, Agnostic, whatever...

But I have one last question for you guys, let's pretend I am a very nice, sincere, Gay Christian. Am I allowed to join the Christian Singles Network??

- Matt

My Dad passed away late last night. I got the call at 8:30 this morning. I don't even know what to say about it. I just spoke to him two days ago and he could barely speak anymore, his voice was almost gone. Lung cancer got the best of him. I can't even type this right now without crying. But at least now it seems that with death, my anger towards him for all the things he did to me has gone away.

Ya know, I have done some research on these 9/11 conspiracies and while they are interesting, I just don't buy it. It just seems like something I would see in a movie.

In case you are unfamiliar with all this, there is a lot of talk of conspiracy going around that the government was behind 9/11. My personal belief is that Bush and his associates in the white house were warned of a coming terrorist attack but didn't take it seriously. I don't believe that they had a part in or covered anything up. I don't have proof of that, but it is my personal belief. I believe that they were too arrogant to take any potential threat too seriously. It's no secret that there has been lots of arrogance in the U.S like "who would attack us?? We are the greatest nation in the world!" Well....

I would just like to say for those that don't know.. I don't like George W. Bush. I think he is a terrible president. I don't like the fact that he pushes a radical ultra right wing christian agenda. Some people in this country seem to be very hostile to anti-establishment politics. I am not sure why this is because many of these people say they hate politics or talking about politics but they are perfectly fine with hearing pro-establishment politics. Also some people assume that when you are talking about how much you oppose the war in Iraq and that other forgotten war (remember the one in Afghanistan?), you are some kind of America hating scumbag. Well no I'm not.

Actually, I like this country a lot. But I could care less for an incompetent president and his chicken hawk buddies in the white house. I would never join the military because It's not really my thing.. but I have no resentment towards people that do. Some may disagree with that and that's fine but I have my own opinions on it. It's just like Henry Rollins says.. he has gone overseas to visit the troops several times. He hates Bush and those politicians in the white house that are so eager to vote for a war but don't have to do the dirty work. But... at the same time he respects those troops. He doesn't want anything bad to happen to them and neither do I. Those soldiers are overseas doing all this nasty work for him and he dares to vote to cut their pay. The real scumbags are people like him and not people like me who actually care about this country. I respect people like my good friend Barbara who recently joined the military. The only people I'd say I don't respect are the ones doing terrible things like forcing prisoners to perform oral sex on eachother and taking pictures of it. That stuff sure was sick... But I want everyone of the soldiers to come home okay.

I am not some crazy radical with some kinda outrageous political agenda. In fact I think the crazy radicals are people like Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity. These people should see what it's really like over there in Iraq because they sure don't know and neither do I. I've seen bumper stickers saying "God bless president bush and our troops." No way! What the fuck has Bush ever done that was so wonderful? The troops are doing 100 times more than him. I find it offensive that his name was even mentioned before the troops. I got off on a rant though...

The 9/11 conspiracies:

I am not going to waste my time on a point by point rebuttal (there are other people who are actual experts or at least more knowledgeable then me that have certainly already done this.. just use google if you want to read any of that information.)

The theories that I have read about, like I said, are fascinating but I see no smoking gun. I have seen and read about professors who are no doubt smarter then me.. explaining theories like the ones about explosions bringing down the twin towers instead of those planes. The problem I see though is that these aren't solid proof. These are opinions. I will offer my humble one though:

For a conspiracy of such a MASSIVE scale, It would require more than a couple of people to do it. In fact, if I'm being logical it would take a lot of people to pull of such a travesty. And for such an event to take place and have no one squeal?? I just don't see the logic in it really. But believe me, I don't trust our government at all. I am not trying to give them any credit. I just don't believe that they did such a thing. I don't think they would be competent enough to do it. I guess they would have the resources to do such a thing.. but just think about how difficult it would be. Like I said, they would have to keep every single person involved from ratting on them. I believe that lots of money could be made (millions surely) of selling the story of the biggest conspiracy of all time to some major news network or some book company or magazine. I think it's easy to believe that such an event would take place given the general distrust of our government. They sure do some terrible things.

I believe a lot of these people have good intentions (wanting to expose such a scumbag as president bush) but in all reality.. I think they have just been given the wrong information.

I know some of you might be saying look at this or this or this... and yeah I'll read anything and open my mind to it.. if I see any subtance there. But some of this information is just little news bites or quotes taken out of context that are pasted together to prove this massive conspiracy. Some of it sounds really good too. But I have yet to see DIRECT evidence of this conspiracy. It all seems to be circumstancial evidence to me. I mean if I wanted to prove something I could string together tons of news bites or quotes and write a shocking article proving that (insert something exciting and outrageous here) really is true.

I mean I want incriminating things.. not quotes that prove the conspiracy. Some people have used stuff like statements from the white house, president bush, fox news or whoever to prove this. The hole in that though is that ALL of those I mentioned lie and distort to push their agendas. I never liked Bush from the start.. he hasn't given me a reason to yet. But I don't believe everything I've seen in a book, saw on TV, read on a website, or watched on some documentary. Why you ask? Because it's not all true.

If I really wanted to like I said before.. then I could google every quote that favored my opinion on something and paste them all into this huge flashy article full of devastating evidence and some people would be eating it out of the palm of my hand.

But if you have real proof that Bush and the government was behind 9/11 then by all means let me know... but please don't send me to a website or a documentary with professors or conspiracy theorists opinions. I'm a facts kinda guy.

Let's all do our best to try to make sure no one like Bush is ever elected again.. because we care about America and don't want it set back any further then Bush has set it already.

"Freedom is under attack, under attack by hysterical and well funded Christian psychotics, intellectually under nourished leaders who lie and manipulate information. Over fed baby huey coward bitch mother fuckers like Karl Rove and their suck up weakling apologists like Sean Hannity. To question authority is to be somehow unpatriotic, un-american and in league with terrorists worldwide? Fuck you! With even election results becoming more and more questionable, the Constitution a thing to be manipulated, ignored and frivolously amended even democracy itself seems to be on the run. So where's the one place you can go and tell your version of the truth, rail against liars, fakes and propagandists with your own unique propaganda, sign your name to it and let the whole world know how you feel? That's right the internet. Perhaps responsible for the most substantial shifts in culture in the last several decades. There is so much freedom and potential on the world wide web, that one is barely able to get one's head around it. Who in there right mind would dare to regulate or charge websites to be on the internet? Who would dare to rain on a parade so fantastic that many of us would not know what to do without our high speed connection and our lives on the internet? Actually some very powerful forces. Telco companies want to make you pay for your site to be carried on the internet. If you can't afford to pay, guess what, that's right, your cyber history pal. The Bush administration wants major internet and phone companies to keep track of where their customers surf, all in the name of the war on terror. Don't you know? How much do you wanna bet they want the internet regulated contained and thrown in to a cell at Guantanamo Bay? For a country that talks so much about freedom being on the march, seems to me that some people want anything but. If they come for your freedom, you must not only resist, you must strike back with a vengeance that will stun them. On this front, if your anger and outrage are not at the forefront, then your already dead. Dead to me anyway. Fuck these cowards, these traitors, these enemies of democracy. Thanks for watching the show this season. Never relent." Henry Rollins (from the Henry Rollins Show on IFC TV)

R.I.P. Desmond Dekker aka The King Of Ska

If you never heard the man.. well his music was amazing.

http://www.mp3.com/news/stories/4693.html
Jamaican star, who continued to record and perform with festival appearances set this summer, succumbs to unknown illness in London.

Reggae icon Desmond Dekker, singer of the first Jamaican song to become an international hit with 1968's "The Israelites," has died in London. He was 64.

Montreal dub producer Moss Raxlen, who has been working with longtime Dekker guitarist Lynn Tait, said Dekker likely succumbed to a heart attack but the exact cause was not known.

Born Desmond Dacres in Kingston, Jamaica, Dekker first auditioned for Studio One founder Coxsone Dodd in 1961, but didn't record his first song, "Honour Your Father and Mother," until 1963. Several local hits followed, and Dekker eventually found his own ska backing group, the Aces, a quartet of singing siblings, and churned out a string of ska hits, including the bouncy love letter "This Woman" and "Mount Zion."

In 1967, he recorded the hit "Tougher Than Tough" with Derrick Morgan, and his own rocksteady number, "007 (Shanty Town)," vaulted to the top of the Jamaican charts.

But it wasn't until 1968 that Dekker became an international star. "The Israelites" introduced reggae to a worldwide audience, topping the UK charts and reaching the top 10 in the US.

Although he never had another hit as big as "The Israelites," Dekker continued to churn out singles and albums at a prolific pace in the 1970s and 1980s, mostly on the renowned Trojan label.

Maxell used "The Israelites" in an ad for its cassette tapes in 1990, bringing
the song back into public view.

Dekker continued to tour and record in recent years, and had a full schedule of performances lined up for the summer.

------------------------------------

Brad,

It would be difficult for me to be any more miserable right now, I feel like the worst person ever. First, let me start by saying that I am truly truly sorry, and I hate myself for hurting you. Of all the people in the whole entire world, you were honestly the last person that I would ever want to wrong in any way. There is no excuse at all or anything that happened, so I won't even try other than to say all of us had WAY too much to drink, and I did a stupid thing. I can handle you being pissed at me, I absolutely deserve it, I can even handle the ugly words that were exchanged between us, what I can't handle is thinking that you see me as a different person.

It is weird, I feel like I just went through a horrible break up or something. The world looked funny yesterday, I couldn't crack a smile if you paid me, there are songs I can't listen to, and I just feel beyond crushed. I don't know if you meant everything you said to me, and I am hoping that you didn't. I know that I was wrong on many levels, but I am also hoping that this is something that we can deal with. I know it sounds totally crazy and stupid, but you have come to play such a significant role in my life, I can't imagine my days without you.

It is totally strange and weird to say that, and you could say that my behavior didn't reflect that, and you would be correct. I hate feeling like you hate me, and I hate feeling like all of your friends think I am a terrible person, because I am not. I know there is nothing I can Say or do to take back what happened, but I just want you to know that fighting with you was just about the worst thing I could have ever imagined. It was right up there with one of the ugliest nights of my life, and I would give anything in the world to rewind and fix it. I am not sure if you will respond to this, part of me thinks that you won't. If not today, then maybe some other time.

Also, thanks for getting my stuff together, although I think my sunglasses are still at your house, if you could keep your eyes peeled for them that would be great. I can't even focus or work today, I can't eat, I seriously feel like it was an ugly break up, and I am hoping against hopes that it was not that and you are not done with me. Please don't cut me off, I really don't think I can handle that.

I am so sorry.
Elizabeth

RESPONSE:

Dear Elizabeth,

Thank you for your concern. I'll be sure to file it away under "L" for "Long-winded diatribes from drunken whores I couldn't care less about".

You did a stupid thing huh? No...doing long division and forgetting to carry the one is "a stupid thing"; Mixing in a red sock with a load of whites is "a stupid thing"; Blowing some guy in a bathroom for 45minutes while I sit at the bar wondering if you're taking so long because you ate too much bran that morning isn't as much a "Stupid thing" as it is grounds for permanent removal from my social calendar.

To be honest, I'm not sure if it was more amusing that you went and degraded yourself in a public toilet not once but twice in a 2 hour span, or that you seemed to think that by saying "Well, I didn't F**k him" somehow gave you a clean slate. So forgive me if I couldn't care less if the world "looked funny" to you yesterday. Since your world revolves around blow dryers, golden retrievers, Prada Bags and Jelly Beans, I'm sure it must have been most unsettling to actually have to consider someone else's feelings for 24
hours straight. The good news for you is that my friends don't think you're a terrible person, they just think you're the average run of the mill cum-guzzling blond who commands about as much respect as your average child porn collector. I could be wrong but, it's pretty hard to respect some B&T chick who comes out to spend the night at my place even though she's seeing someone else in New jersey and winds up tongue-bathing the taint of anyone who decides 30 minutes of droning commentary on Colin Farrell's new
haircut is worth putting up with for a hand job in the men's room. The good thing about being a guy is that when I eventually bump into the young lad who finger-blasted you on top of a towel dispenser last saturday, we'll have a shot and laugh our heads off about the time it happened.

By the way, for the amount of time you claim to spend in spin class you really must be doing something wrong to sport the thunder thighs you do. Watching you parade around my bedroom in a thong was a little like watching sea lions mate. Thought you might like to know.

PS. I forwarded about 100 people on this email.

Talk to you never,
Brad
